captain saahab,
yep mez on here..great to know you too...!
Ratan ji,
I have been trying for a long time to respond to your comment but writing and erasing. You make such a great point. Very very valid. You are right that one cannot compare Kishore and Rafi saahab. But I think one of the qunitessential characteristic of the human race is that they always try to find out who is the best amongst us. So we compare even when we can't :-) And I do too. For me Rafi is more versatile than Kishore ever was [even at his peak]. That makes Rafi better for me..not to mention his velvetty voice. For some other person no one could beat Kishore in conveying exuberance. That might make Kishore better for them. The point I am trying to make is that talent is always going to be compared and there are always going to be opinions. And my opinion is that Rafi is better and since this blog was all about me..I had the freedom to express it. But I agree with you that maybe I could have said that I like Rafi better.
Another point that came forth from your comment was that your amalgamation of the artist and the person. You do not elucidate as to what was it that you were disappointed in Jagjit Singh abt? Was it his voice or the way he conducted himself? I agree that his voice is not what it used to be...but if you are talking about the person in question then I beg to differ. I think one should always keep the person and the artist distinct. They are two completely different aspects. I can always enjoy a Jagjit Singh song even though I know that he is one of the most arrogant person's around. I can still look at Salman Khan sometimes and go.. oooooh! he is such great eye candy...even though I know he drove a car over a person. But yes if an artist and person come together...like in Hemant da's case you quote, its outta this world. But I just dont think we should judge an artist's talent by what kind of person he is [I know I know Salman Khan's looks are not his talent..but come on people a hero has to look good ;-)] and vice versa. As I was commenting watching ShahR Rukh give a very witty and intelligent interview making mockery of people smashing windows to have a look at him...I was like ..'I love Shah Rukh Khan the person..'...Then I watched a scene from Devdas and went..'..and I loathe Shah Rukh Khan the actor...'
Yikes..enuff said..that could be a blog itself, Thanks again sir for the great comment. Thank you!
cheti..
  chup!
